Blood and Legos

Blood Drive

This is a news report over the ONW blood drive on Nov. 14 2014 that I edited and filmed with my video team of Kit Walters and Victoria Scarduzio. I had to make sure to capture important story telling shots about the ONW blood drive, we chose to follow sophomore Olivia Contractor.

There was no tripod use so all of the shots were shot in a particular stance to make them as steady as possible. Once we were done filming we brought it back to edit, using a very import editing technique called JNL edits. A JNL edit is where you see the subject speaking before they are heard in the video.

That new technique was the most important thing that I learned from this news report process. After seeing the shots and how it turned out, most likely if I did it again I would ask Olivia more questions and do my best to make steadier shots. The rest I would do the exact same because the video turned out quite well. In conclusion I learned a lot about the importance of sound bytes and asking questions, so this news report taught me a lot of things to do with audio.

Lego Building

In this news report about two students building a star wars lego set, I took different shots setting the scene and close ups to show what was going on. In order to show the process of building a lego set. Capturing different shots and important background noise made my editing process very easy to assemble and make interesting. Along the way of making this project I learned the importance of close ups used in a news report, also how to capture audio and make sure it sounded well by using earphones.

After finishing this video the only real thing that I would change about it is my voice over and say different things to make the story of what they are doing flow better. Nothing else would be changed because the amount of close ups and creative shots
that I used made the video intriguing and interesting the whole time.
In conclusion this video taught me the true importance of using close ups in a news report situation. They keep the story interesting and not dull because you know what is going on and want to learn more. This video turned out to be really good for having no true instruction on how to do somethings and what to use in a news report.

Comparison

These two separate news report videos have a lot in common and different about them. Both of these videos have a lot of creative and great scene setting shots, including good NAT noise. They also have a good flow of how the shots go through out the video and fit what the audio is talking about.

Differences of these videos is that the Lego video has steadier shots. The Blood Drive video doesn't have as many close ups that the Lego video has. Audio in the Lego video in my opinion isn't as good as the Blood Drive because the Lego one is super quiet and doesn't have that many good useful sound bytes. The voice over in the Blood Drive video is also better because of how clear it is and it doesn't use the same words over and over again.
