Hat Trick

The Project

Criteria needed
In this short film that Markus and I created we were suppose to make a 1 minute and 30 seconds to 3 minute short film that met some small criteria (too the right). It was used as our class final in order to test all of the skills I have acquired through out this entire year in the application Final Cut Pro and in the field of working along side a partner and planning out what happens in and off the set of a film.

Process:

The process of creating this idea was very long; yet fun. First we had to build an idea and plot for a story. Before my partner and I even started making the film Hat Trick we had a totally different idea for a film so we had a lot less time to produce a master piece.
Script made with Celtx
Once we had made this idea we had to make story boards (look at my animation post to see what one looks like!). After that we had to write a script to match the shots we had drawn.

After creating all these things we went out and shot the film. With the shots we had taken I imported them into Final Cut Pro and started editing them. Finally, after a long time editing and picking the right music I exported the film and uploaded it to Youtube.

Experience:

Through out creating this short film I learned the real importance of preplanning and some new things on Final Cut Pro
After transforming
Before transforming
In Final Cut Pro I learned how to transform an image to cut out things in the shot that were unnecessary and looked bad.
I also learned a lot of good team work skills and how to really work with other people at a fast and efficient rate. No really new skills were learned in a professional field but more of just the technology side of film making and preproduction.

Next time:

The next time I make this film I would not change the audio or dialogue that is in the film because it was so funny and truly made a funny and lightened tone in the film. Another thing that I wouldn't change is the shots and angles that we had taken because I feel as if they complimented in telling the story.
Dutch angle to help tell story
Some things I would change though are probably the transition shots that we had taken on set because I was in need of more transitional shots to help tell those parts of the story. Other than that nothing in film would need to be changed because it was very good and well developed.

Overall

Overall, I had a great time making this short film. The experiences in editing films and the true importance of preparing for filming will be what really sticks with me for the next time I create a film. Another thing that will stick with me is making sure that there is good transition shots for telling the story as well as good entertaining shots.

In conclusion, this film was really good in my opinion and I will always be proud of making it. I had a really fun time producing this film and editing it in my free time. This project was one of my favorite things that I have been able to do for school through out this entire year and I will always enjoy this class because it pulls all my abilities into one big project and pushes me to be better than I did before.
