3 Point Lighting

In order to successfully light an interview or scene most people will use the 3 point lighting method. This method involves a key light, fill light, and back light.

Here you can see an example of the key light placement.
The key light is the main source of light and it is placed to one side of the camera so that one side is well lit while the other side has some shadow.

The fill light is next. This is used on the opposite side of the key light and will fill in the shadows created by the key light. This light is also usually softer and less bright than the key light.

Here you can see an example of the fill lights placement.
Finallly, you have the backlight. This light is placed behind the subject and its purpose is to provide definition and subtle highlights around the subject.
Here you can see the final product of 3 point lighting.
